The Magic of Matching!
How does Hope Surrogacy’s matching process work?
6/22/17
Many people wonder what goes into matching parents with a gestational surrogate. With Hope Surrogacy’s program, the magic of matching takes place in our office here in Madison, Wisconsin.
Considerations
There are many considerations when presenting a match with Intended Parents:
-where does the surrogate live?
-what are her views on abortion, and selective reduction
-what type of medical insurance does she have?
These are important considerations because it will impact the financial commitment the Intended Parents face, as well as ethical and legal issues that are important in a surrogacy arrangement. Another very important aspect, and probably one of the most challenging, is the emotional aspect of a surrogacy match. What does this mean? It means there is a certain “je ne sais quoi” about matching that is more organic than a simple check list of items to address. The emotional quotient takes into account the expectations of the Intended Parents versus the surrogate’s desire to fulfill the dream of deserving parents by having a child for them. Will their personalities mesh? Are they extroverts? Can they work with an introvert? Does the lifestyle of the surrogate work with the lifestyle of the Intended Parent? Is there a language or cultural barrier that needs to be addressed? At Hope Surrogacy, the magic of the matching happens when you combine the desires/wants/priorities of the Intended Parents, and match them with the desire/wants/priorities of the gestational surrogate. It’s not always easy – a lot of thought goes in to making a successful match.
