Laura and Chad – Two Brave Parents Who Never Gave Up Hope

Today, on a brand new episode of Hope Works, we are proud to introduce you to Laura and Chad, brave parents who never gave up hope and, with the help of a surrogate, welcomed their son into the world. Laura and Chad always knew they wanted to be parents, but they had no idea how difficult their journey would be on the road to building their family. Everything changed when they met their surrogate. Now their youngest son is two years old and today they look back at the hard road behind them, full of gratitude for the future ahead. Incredible Challenges

Laura and Chad started parenthood like most families. When they decided to start trying for kids, they quickly became pregnant with their first child. But for the entire pregnancy Laura was sick, and the months were very difficult.

“Pregnancy and me did not get along,” Laura said. But they got through it. Their first son was healthy and beautiful. And the delivery was fairly easily compared to what came next.

In the years to come, Laura and Chad faced incredible loss which they share in their episode. These were some of the hardest, darkest days of their lives.

Brave Parents

After devastating loss, Laura and Chad picked themselves up and bravely kept moving forward. Their first son helped keep them going. “At those darkest moments, having our son come in… you know… saved both of us,” Chad said. “Just having him come in the [hospital] room and give us a hug and wanting to be with us.”

They looked at their options, and they turned to surrogacy. “We felt excited about it,” Laura said. They started creating embryos right away and waited for their match.

One Surrogate Changed Everything

Laura and Chad waited patiently to be matched with a woman who would carry their second child. When the day finally came, the match meeting went perfectly.

“I could immediately tell that her intentions were for all the right reasons,” Laura said. “To hear about her and her kids and how great they were as parents… It was just really reassuring that they would take care of our kids.”

Their surrogate carried their second child, a son, to term. On delivery day she handed him over to Laura and Chad.

“It was the first time we ever really took a breath,” Laura said.

“I sat back,” Chad said. “And Laura was in tears, and our surrogate was in tears. Seeing both of them as mothers and seeing him, that was very special to me. Not only that Briggs was here, but that our surrogate was able to help us. And how willing she was to help us.”
