A Surrogate’s Husband Shares His Surrogacy Journey
When you imagine surrogacy, most people imagine the incredible, life-changing journey parents go through with the woman who carries their child. The center of the surrogacy journey is definitely the relationship between surrogates and their intended parents.
What many people don’t think about is the critical role of the surrogate’s partner. Every step of the way, the partners of surrogates are there, cheering on their wives, helping with meds, going to appointments and taking care of the kids.
Over the years we’ve witnessed “bro-mances” between the surrogate’s husband and gay intended parents or between the surrogate’s husband with the intended mother’s husband. We’ve seen husbands helping their wives breath through a surrogate delivery, and we’ve seen surrogates’ husbands host celebrations for their wives, the intended parents, and the new baby.
We’ve seen husbands of surrogates support in incredible ways. But we have never had a surrogate’s husband write about his experience.
One amazing husband shared this post with us. He had just supported his wife through her surrogacy delivery, and he got to see the precious new baby in her parent’s arms. His perspective is essential and gives voice to the men who help support their wives through the amazing surrogacy experience.
Please feel free to message Hope Surrogacy if you think the surrogacy journey might be right for you. We are happy to put you in touch with people who are willing to share their story.
A Husband’s Heartfelt Story:
“As most of you know, my wife was a surrogate, and she recently gave birth to the baby. A huge shout out to her for the selfless gift she has given our new friends. She is an absolutely amazing woman, and this reinforces the many reasons why I love her. I also wanted to write a post about my own experience through the process and how I will be forever changed. To be honest, I was totally against the idea of my wife being pregnant with a baby other than ours, but after much research and seeing how genuinely excited she was, I knew I had to support her.
My main concern was what if something happened to her during the pregnancy? That fear was put to rest after we had our meeting with the intended parents. They are some of the most caring people I’ve ever met, and her health was always #1. The whole experience was something that I’ll never forget. It really pushed me outside of my comfort zone.
I’m a person who doesn’t like going out of my comfort zone, but I’m glad my wife pushed me to do so. It allowed me to see a different side of myself and I learned more about myself in this 9-month journey than I have in the past many years.
We know multiple couples who have had issues with infertility, so for her to give an amazing gift of a child is truly something special. That moment when you get to hold your child for the first time is second to none, and this was another reason why I chose to support everyone on this journey.
If you are going through infertility, know you are not alone. It’s a situation that is not openly discussed, but it’s a situation that is becoming more common. You should also know that there are many different options to becoming a parent and surrogacy is just one of them. If you are interested in becoming a surrogate or just have questions about the process, don’t be afraid to ask. It will change you for the better and will allow you to give/receive the ultimate gift.”
